Barberry – Berberis vulgaris

Plant : Barberry is a large, spiky, deciduous shrub which can grow over 3 m tall.  It is believed to be native and grows in hedgerows, shrub land and wood land.  It is a member of the Berberidaceae family.

Flower : The small flowers grow on drooping spikes, which grow along the plant’s stems, from the leaf nodes.  The bright yellow flowers are less than 1 cm across and flower in May and June.
