Bee – Bumble Bee – Bombus terrestris

The common name Bombus terrestris is the “Buff-tailed bumble bee” and its full taxonomy is:-

  • Class – Insecta
  • Order – Hymenoptera
  • Family – Apidae
  • Genus – Bombus
  • Species – terrestris

The buff-tailed bumble bee has yellow collar and abdominal hoops, as well as a buff or ginger tail.  It often nests under the ground.  Colonies can be large with over 500 adults.
