Bee – Bumble Bee – Bombus pratorum

The common name Bombus pratorum is the “Early bumble bee” and its full taxonomy is:-

  • Class – Insecta
  • Order – Hymenoptera
  • Family – Apidae
  • Genus – Bombus
  • Species – pratorum

The early bumble bee has long shaggy hair.  It has yellow collar and abdominal hoops, as well as a distinctive orange tail.  It can nest in a number of locations but is often found in bird boxes, trees and roof spaces.
