Dragonfly – Large Red Damselfly – Pyrrhosoma nymphula

The full taxonomy of the Large Red Damselfly is: –

  • Class – Insecta
  • Order – Odonata
  • Family – Ceonagrionidae
  • Genus – Pyrrhosoma
  • Species – nymphula

The Large Red Damselfly is common across most of the UK and can be found near to still water, in which it breeds.  The photo above is of the male.
