Red Clover – Trifolium pratense

Plant : Red Clover is native and common on grassland and verges.  It produces long slender branching stems which can reach 50 cm high.  The distinctive leaves have three leaflets and an inverted white V pattern.  They are a member of the Fabaceae family.

Flower : The flower head is made up of numerous tiny florets.  Each of these pink florets is characteristic of the irregular 5 petal flowers of the pea family.  It flowers between May and September.
