Lilac – Syringa vulgaris

Plant : Lilac is an introduced species, which is grown in domestic gardens and parks for its decoration and pleasant fragrance.  It is very attractive to bees in the late spring.  Belonging to the Oleaceae family, it is a deciduous shrub and can grow over 5 m tall.

Flower : The pretty lilac flowers grow in panicles and have four petals and two stamen.  It flowers in May.
