Germander Speedwell – Veronica chamaedrys

Plant : Germander Speedwell is native to the region and is common in hedgerow, woodland and shrub land.  It grows along the ground and produces slender upright stems , which can reach 40 cm in height.  It is a member of the Veronicaceae family and attractive to bees.

Flower : The blue flowers are slightly irregular and have four petals.  There are two stamen, which stand well above the petals and quite distinctive.  It flowers between March and July.
