English Yew – Taxus baccata

Plant : English Yew is a native species, which can be found in woodland and shrubland, as well in many domestic gardens.  It is an evergreen tree which can grow over 20 m tall.  It is a wind pollenated Gymnospermae and a member of the Taxaceae family.  The distinctive leaves are small and narrow rather than needle-shaped.

Flower : As a Gymnospermae there is no flower but there are tiny cones, which act like pollen dispensers.  It is capable of creating large clouds of pollen in March and April.
