Bee – Nomad Bee – Nomada goodeniana

The common name of Nomada Goodeniana is “the Gooden’s nomad bee”.  Its full taxonomy is:-

  • Class – Insecta
  • Order – Hymenoptera
  • Family – Apidae
  • Genus – Nomada
  • Species – goodeniana

The Gooden’s nomad bee is clepoparasitic.  It lays its eggs in the wall of cells of its host and emerges to kill it host larva and to feed on its stores.  It primarily chooses the Andrena species as its host.   It is wasp-like in appearance and its preferred forage includes forget-me-not, dandelion and rape.
